Introduction: Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the world and can have significant physical, financial, and especially psychological consequences. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of "Compassion-Based Therapy" on the individual-social adjustment of women with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental study conducted as a pre-test-post-test. Among women with type 2 diabetes living in Nowshahr who had referred to city-level medical centers, 50 were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly divided into two interventions (n=25) and control (n=25) groups. A demographic questionnaire and the “California Individual-Social Adjustment Inventory” were used to collect data. The validity of the instruments was measured qualitatively and the reliability was measured by the internal consistency method by calculating the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The intervention group underwent 12 sessions of "Compassion-Based Therapy" and the control group received training and usual treatment. Data analysis was performed in SPSS.21.
Results: There was a significant difference between the changes in personal-social adjustment in the two groups (p=0.000). Also, the level of individual -social adjustment increased significantly after the "Compassion-Based Therapy" period in the intervention group (P=0.002). However, these changes were not statistically significant in the control group (P=0.031).
Conclusion: "Compassion-Based Therapy" is effective on the individual-social adjustment of women with type 2 diabetes. It is suggested that this treatment method be used to improve the individual-social adjustment of these patients.
