Abstract
Introduction: Lifestyle is combination of behavioral patterns and habits which various factors affect lifestyle of obese people. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of treatment based on “Choice Theory” on improving the lifestyle of women suffered from obesity.
Material & Methods: This study was a semi-experimental, which was conducted on 30 obese women of Ardakan through random sampling in 2014 and then these 30 women were randomly categorized into experimental and control groups. The “Lifestyle Questionnaire” (content validity and reliability by Cronbach’s alpha was measured) was used for pretest. in total, 7 Reality therapy sessions were held for the experimental group. In this period, the people who were in control group did not receive any treatment. After the completion of the sessions, “Lifestyle Questionnaire” as post-test was distributed between both groups. Then data were collected and analyzed by SPSS/21.
Finding: In the experimental group, mean in pretest stage was 105/07 which after post-test increased to 135/73 Furthermore, the therapy based on “Choice Theory”, improved dimensions of physical health (P>0.05), nutrition and weight control (P>0.01), physical exercises and health (P>0.01), psychological health (P>0.01) of life style of women who suffered from obesity.
Conclusion: Treatment based on the “Choice Theory”, improved the lifestyle of women suffered from obesity. Hence it is recommended that organizations apply the “Choice Theory” to improve the lifestyle of the people suffered from obesity.
