Introduction: Attitude towards infidelity and honesty are among the factors affecting the perceived quality of marital relationship. The present study aimed to predict the perceived quality of marital relationship based on the attitude towards infidelity and honesty.
Methods: The research method was descriptive correlation type. The statistical population of the present study included all married women in the 15th district of Tehran in 2023. Among them, 236 people were selected by the convenience sampling method from the neighborhood houses of the 15th district of Tehran. The research tools included demographic scale, "Perceived Relationship Quality Components Inventory", "Attitudes towards Infidelity Scale" and "Honesty Inventory". The validity of the instruments was measured using content validity using a qualitative method and reliability using the internal consistency method by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS.26.
Results: The attitude towards infidelity had a significant inverse correlation with the commitment, trust and love components of the perceived quality of marital relationship (P<0.05). Honesty had a significant direct correlation with satisfaction, intimacy, trust, sexual passion and love components of the “Perceived Relationship Quality Components Inventory” (P<0.05). The results of the present model showed that 16% of the variance of perceived quality of marital relationship is predicted based on the attitude towards infidelity and honesty. The regression coefficients showed that honesty (P<0.01, β=0.378) can explain the variance of the perceived quality of marital relationship and was a predictor of the perceived quality of marital relationship.
Conclusions: The attitude towards infidelity and honesty were related to the perceived quality of marital relationship, and honesty predicts the perceived quality of marital relationship. Therefore, it is suggested that family counselors and psychologists focus on people's attitudes towards infidelity and the level of honesty of couples in marital relationship in couple therapy to improve the quality of marital relationship.
