Abstract:   (109 Views)
Introduction: Students, as one of the most important sections of the society, play an essential role in the progress of the country. Therefore, paying attention to their psychological issues and problems is very important. The present study was conducted with the aim of predicting cognitive fusion based on defense Style and object relations, mediated by academic conscience in Islamic Azad University students, Zanjan, Iran.
Methods: The current research is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included all students (in three levels: bachelor, master and doctorate) studying in Islamic Azad University Zanjan Branch in the academic year of 2023-2024, and 375 people were selected from this population based on Morgan's table by cluster random sampling method. The instruments used are demographic questionnaire, "Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire", "Defense Style Questionnaire", "Bell Object Relation Inventory" and "Academic Conscience Questionnaire". For the validity of the tools, previous researches were used and reliability was done by the method of internal consistency and calculation of Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS .27 and Amos. 25.
Results: The proposed structural equation model had a good fit. Cognitive fusion had a negative and significant correlation with the developed defensive style (R=-0.343), and a direct, positive and significant correlation with the underdeveloped (R=0.367) and neurotic (R=0.315) styles. Also, the path of thematic relations to cognitive fusion (R=0.300), the path of academic conscience to cognitive fusion (R=0.355), and the path of the defensive style to academic conscience (in mature, immature and neurotic components, respectively, 0.366, -0.369, -0.364). Finally, the path of thematic relations to academic conscience (R=0.397) had an indirect, negative and significant correlation. Defensive style and thematic relations have an indirect and negative correlation with cognitive fusion, both directly and through academic conscience.
Conclusions: Defense style, object relations, and academic conscientiousness directly predict cognitive fusion. Also, the mediating role of academic conscience was confirmed in this regard. It is suggested to increase the level of students' awareness of defense style, object relationships and their academic conscience, seminars and educational workshops are held in the form of consecutive courses and their important impact on cognitive fusion is emphasized.
