The correlation between organizational commitment and the quality of working life among staff of Sarpolzahab health network

Introduction: The quality of working life (QWL) is one of the main determinants of organizational commitment that use QWL as a lever to attract and retain valuable, professional, and committed employees to the organization. This study aims to determine correlation between organizational commitment and the quality of working life among staff of Sarpolzahab health network Materials & Methods: This descriptive-correlational study is conducted in Sarpolzahab in Iran, 2015. The data gathering instruments are demographic questionnaire, “Allen & Meyer’s Organizational Commitment Questionnaire” and “Walton’s Quality of Working Life questionnaire”. Study population consists of all staff of Sarpolzahab health network (332 person). Validity and reliability of the instrument were confirmed in previous studies. However, in this study content and face validity of the instruments were measured. Data was analyzed through SPSS/16. Findings: The mean score of organizational commitment and QWL are 3.5 and 2.9 out of 5 respectively that indicates an intermediate level. Analysis showed that, there is a positive and significant correlation between QWL and organizational commitment (r =0.31, p≤ 0.001). Constitutionalism (r=0.33, P≤ 0.001), sustainable security and growth opportunities (r =0.30, p≤ 0.001), and the development of human capabilities (r=0.29, P≤0.001) have the strongest correlation with organizational commitment. Conclusion: in conclusion it can be said that, quality of work life and organizational commitment has a positive correlation. As such, developing supervision and management supports, providing educational programs, and enhancing the physical conditions of the workplace are further suggested.
