Development and psychometric of “Assessing Quality of Nursing Records Checklist”

Introduction: Recording patient care is an important monitoring method to determine the correct registration and evaluation of treatment and care. Therefore, developments of a valid and reliable instrument to measure quality of nursing records are required. The aim of this study was development and psychometric measurement of “Assessing Quality of Nursing Records Checklist”.
Materials & Methods: This research was a methodological study. First, studies were reviewed, “Assessing Quality of Nursing Records Checklist” with 57 items and 4 dimensions was developed. Content Validity Index (Waltz & Bausell) and face validity was measured using point of view of 20 nurses. Reliability was also determined by intraclass correlation (ICC) method. Data was analyzed by SPSS/19.
Findings: For measuring content validity index of “Assessing Quality of Nursing Records Checklist”, items with more than 79% was retained, therefore, items in the final stage were reduced to 42 items. In addition, findings showed that there are 4 dimensions in the “Assessing Quality of Nursing Records Checklist”. Furthermore, it was indicated that value of ICC was 0.96.
Conclusion: The “Assessing Quality of Nursing Records Checklist” was developed with 42 in 4 dimensions which was valid and reliable. Due to lack of valid and reliable checklist for measuring the quality of nursing records in Iran, use of the developed checklist can facilitate the evaluation process. Measuring other types of validity such as construct and concurrent validity is also suggested. |
