Abstract:   (12 Views)
Introduction: Speech and Language disorders in children, as one of the basic challenges in psychological and social development, have profound effects on parents' lives and the quality of family interactions. Therefore, the current research was conducted with the aim of comparing defensive styles, attachment, ambiguity tolerance and affective styles in parents of children with and without speech and Language disorders in Qazvin city.
Methods: The present research method was descriptive-comparative. The statistical population included mothers of 1-5-year-old children with speech and Language disorders and parents of children without disorder in Qazvin city. The research sample included 200 parents of children with and without speech and Language disorders, who were selected by targeted and convenience sampling. Data collection instruments include demographic questionnaire, “Defense Style Questionnaire”, “Revised Adult Attachment Scale”, “Multiple Stimulus Types Ambiguity Tolerance Scale–II” and "Affective Style Questionnaire". The validity of the instruments was limited to previous researches. The reliability of the instruments was measured by internal consistency method by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Data were collected by referring parents of children with speech and language disorders to the speech therapy department of Quds Specialized Pediatric Hospital, as well as from parents of children without disorder in several kindergartens in Qazvin city. The data was analyzed in SPSS .27.
Results: There is a significant difference between defensive styles (P<0.05), attachment (P<0.05), ambiguity tolerance (P<0.01) and affective style (P<0.05) in 2 groups.
Conclusions: Parents of children with speech and language disorders, compared to parents of children without disorder, exhibit different patterns in coping with challenges and managing feelings. It is recommended that the findings of the present study be utilized to develop supportive and counseling strategies for parents of such children, ultimately enhancing parent-child interactions and providing more effective support for the speech and language of the children.
