Introduction: Pregnancy-induced hypertension is one of the most common medical complications during pregnancy and a significant cause of maternal and fetal mortality worldwide. The purpose of this study is to determine the comparison of correlation between intolerance of uncertainty, anxiety sensitivity and acceptance and action with blood pressure levels in pregnant women with and without hypertension in Zanjan city.
Methods: This research employed a descriptive-comparative design. The present study is descriptive-comparative. The statistical population included all pregnant women with and without hypertension in Zanjan in 2024. Using the Cochran's formula, the sample size was determined to be 314 (222 without hypertension and 92 with hypertension) and was selected using the convenience sampling method. Data collection instruments included demographic questionnaire, “Analog Sphygmomanometer”, “Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale”, “Anxiety Sensitivity Index” and “Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II”. The validity of the instruments was calculated by qualitative method and reliability by internal consistency method by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using SPSS. 27.
Results: There was no significant difference in the levels of intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety sensitivity between pregnant women with and without hypertension (P>0.05). Acceptance and Action was significantly different between pregnant women with and without hypertension, with women without hypertension exhibiting higher levels (P≤0.05). Intolerance of uncertainty and high blood pressure in pregnant women with and without hypertension were positively, directly and significantly correlated, positively, directly and significantly correlated with anxiety sensitivity, and negatively, indirectly and significantly correlated with acceptance and action (P≤0.05).
Blood pressure levels in pregnant women with and without hypertension were predictable based on intolerance of uncertainty (β=0.29), anxiety sensitivity (β=0.30), and Acceptance and Action (β= -0.32) (P≤0.05).
Conclusion: Intolerance of ambiguity, anxiety sensitivity were positively and directly correlated with the level of hypertension, and acceptance and action were negatively and indirectly correlated with the level of hypertension. Acceptance and action were different between pregnant women with and without hypertension, and pregnant women without hypertension had higher acceptance and action. Therefore, it is recommended that workshops and conferences on maternal and fetal care and counseling services be implemented for mothers.
