Effectiveness of stress management training on improved quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes

Introduction: Quality of life in chronic diseases such as diabetes is a very important concept. Quality of life enhancement of these patients is done in different ways. One of these methods is control stress management. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the eeffectiveness of stress management training on improved quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes.

 

Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental intervention study. The study sample was consisted of 96 female and male patients with type 2 diabetes (48 patients in the control group and 48 patients in the intervention group), that were participated in convenience method. Quality of life in patients before and after the intervention groups was measured with a questionnaire SF36.  Data were collected and analyzed with SPSS/20.

 

Findings: The total mean score of quality of life before and after intervention in the control group was 54.1±15.53 and 54.32±14.79. The total mean score of quality of life before and after intervention in the intervention group was 54.21±16.69 and 63.52±12.41. The results showed there is significant difference in quality of life the patients with type 2 diabetes before and after stress management training  (P<0.0001). 

 

Conclusions: The results showed that education of stress management will improve the quality of life in intervention group. It is recommended that the supplement treatment to be provided be used for diabetics patients and other chronic patients.
