Identifying Social- Emotional Growth Model of Elementary School Students Using Grounded Theory

Introduction: Emotional and social development in elementary school plays a key role in shaping the personality and future outlook of students. The present study was conducted with the aim of identifying social-emotional growth model of elementary school students using the Grounded Theory method.
Methods: The present study was qualitative and conducted with a grounded theory approach. The statistical population was experts in educational sciences and elementary education. The snowball sampling method was used, with 14 people selected as a sample. Data collection was carried out with semi-structured interviews. The validity of the findings was assessed using four criteria, including validity, generalizability, reliability, and confirmability, and the intra-subject agreement method was used to measure the reliability of the interviews. The reliability of the interviews using the intra-subject agreement method was 0.84.
Results: The social-emotional growth model of students was designed to include 109 open codes, 26 core codes, and 6 selective codes. 6 selective codes and 26 core codes identified including causal conditions (5 core codes), context (3 core codes), intervening conditions (4 core codes), phenomena (5 core codes), strategies (5 core codes), and consequences (6 core codes) were obtained.
Conclusions: The social-emotional growth model of elementary school students is influenced by a set of influenced by a set of causal conditions, context, intervening conditions, strategies and consequences. It is suggested that the extracted model be used to design educational, counseling, and support programs in elementary schools in order to more effectively cultivate students' social - emotional capabilities.
